Unlimited Potential

111510

The only limit to what we can accomplish is set by ourselves…

We are amazing.  I am amazing.  You are amazing.  We have extraordinary capacity and potential.  But – we often set limits for ourselves.  Or we don’t really believe that we are capable.  Perhaps we haven’t learned what we need to know to be able to do something yet…  Or perhaps we need to position ourselves differently in order to accomplish something…  Sometime accomplishing something takes a lot of preparation and planning and patience.  It may take years to make some things happen.  BUT – I believe that almost anything is possible…  We can define our path through life.  We can make the most of the gifts we have been given…

I believe that it is important to ask God to walk our path with us – to assist us – to guide us…  God can change things, move things, change people, etc to help us get through our path.  It is important to me that my path be compatible with what I believe.  I want to be able to help others as I move through my path.  I want to make a difference in the world – to make a little bit of it better for others.

With God’s help, we can move beyond whatever we think are out limits.  God can move mountains…  If we believe and if we ask.

Saddling Up or Riding

Queen and mePlanning is a good thing.  But – it can be a hidden source of procrastination.  I tend to spend too much time saddling up – getting all my ducks in a row, organizing, making lists, preparing, etc…   and less time doing the actual riding…

It is good to be prepared – and good planning can save time and effort later…  But – it is possible to do too much planning…  It can be a sneaky form of procrastination…  Or perfectism…  Be alert to this possibility…

Go ahead and jump in to the task – start riding before you think you are totally ready…  You can always fake it till you make it…  And you can always back up and do a little planning if needed…

I think part of this planning could be a fear of getting into something new – or perhaps the fear that I might not know how to do something…  or might not be able to do it…

I know that perfectionism is actually not possible.  We can be great, wonderful, successful – but there is no need to be perfect – and who gets to decide what perfect is anyway?  Left up to me, I’m not sure I could ever say that anything is truly perfect.  AND – I do not think that it is necessary for us to be perfect…

We are wonderful.  I am wonderful.  You are wonderful.  If we work to do our best, take the best care of ourselves, look our best, act our best, etc – then that is enough.  And BEST does not mean PERFECT…

Just get on your horse and ride.  Saddle up quickly and efficiently and then RIDE…..

Flying

shiny sink

Flylady is a great friend – one I’ve never met – but one I have known for years through her website and reminders…  She has a huge following – and has been a great leader.  Reminding us that we can do anything in 15 minutes… She reminds us to be happy, have fun, focus on ourselves and to get things done…

http://www.flylady.net/d/br/author/flylady/

I use a timer for many things.  Setting a timer for 15 minutes and setting out to start a task is one of the greatest tools I have…  It’s not about finishing or completing the tasks – its about starting…  I think that we sometimes scare ourselves with the heaviness of the work in front of us – and therefore don’t start as easily as we might if we knew we only had to spend 15 minutes on it at a time..

Flylady helps with reminders, with goals and with a path for everyday living…  One with fun and lightness…  I’ve learned from Flylady the importance of keeping my sink shiny…  spending a little time each day on something basic – like my kitchen sink – will cause me to be more diligent in the rest of my life…  Flylady says you can learn a new habit in 27 days…  do the same thing for 27 days and it becomes a habit…  as one task becomes habit – add another…  slowly but surely my habits improve…

One of my favorite flylady tasks is the 27 fling boogie…  I grab a plastic bag and dance through the house selecting 27 things to throw away..  Doing this every day makes a nice dent in the decluttering of my house.

She also reminds us that Perfection is not possible or necessary…  Her motto is Progress not Perfection…   And — it’s not necessary to “catch up” – just jump in where you are…

Flylady has great lists and plans to help with many different situations – like decluttering, packing, moving, emergency preparation, etc…

Lessons Learned…

More tIMG_4225han 20 years ago I discovered a wonderful group called ISA – Institute for Self Actualization. They are an international group who host workshops to help you discover and work on yourself. I attended my first “isa experience” with my soon to be husband a few months before we married. It was the best possible thing we could have done together… It broke down barriers and opened communications in ways that would have taken us years to do on our own. We repeated the experience several times over the next few years – often on our own, or with other close friends.

A few of the things I took away from the isa experience have stuck with me ever since…

We are all connected. We live within an energy that connects us all… Everything we do is connected to everything and everyone else. We are all in this together!

Do something intentional every day! Make a commitment to something very easy and very small and do it every day… The discipline of that action will expand out and affect more and more things that need to be done…

Every time we learn something new – or push ourselves outside our comfort zone — we push our circle of knowledge/comfort/etc… outward… Learning/experiencing one new thing – expands many other things…

You cannot change anything if you keep doing the things you’ve always done the way you’ve always done them….

My word is my law. What I believe, What I tell myself, is my reality. And because of that I can change what I tell myself and therefore change my reality…

The Golden Rule

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

I try to live my life by this rule.  My grandmother gently reminded me of this rule throughout my childhood.  I try to think about the consequences of my actions – and to treat people in a way that I would want to be treated…  She also told me to “put myself in others shoes…”   Great advice!

A similar quote is “What goes around, comes around”…  If we put out into the universe, it will be returned to us.

My grandmother also told me that “you can’t outgive God…”  Which is so true.  I dare you to try it.  Look around for a need that you can address – and meet that need – and do it without telling anyone…  It is an incredibly rewarding experience…

Do What You Love

photo interior 2-small

I love my work and my job.  It is an extension of who I am.   My work is part of what I enjoy in my life – and therefore it often doesn’t feel like work…   I think that any type of job can be rewarding and joyful.  I encounter people in jobs that some would consider menial jobs – but they make those jobs rewarding – and use them to spread joy and love to the world.   They touch lives through their work… Your job can help further your life’s goals – through the way you interact with people – through the example you provide – through your hard work and dedication… Work can still be stressful and difficult and sometimes downright horrible…   And so can any part of life.   If your work is part of your life’s work, then the good will outweigh the bad…  The rewards can be amazing! Find what you love to do – and find a way to make that part of your work life.  Make the most of whatever situation you find yourself in.  Find a way to make it serve your life. There’s always a way….

Put Your Sails Up…

IMG_0072It is important to me to have Faith in a higher Source.  I believe in God – and I believe that I have access to his love and assistance whenever I ask for it.  It is important to me to remind myself of this through a daily focus toward faith.

I have a simple prayer outline that helps me focus.  I think of the word ACTS – A for acknowledgement of God / Source,  C for Confession, T for thanksgiving and S for intersession – asking for God’s help and guidance for specific things…  I pray when I think about it – often at night after everyone else is asleep…  when I feel quiet and close to God.

I also enjoy learning from other cultures and other ways of focusing on spirit and faith.  There is much to learn from others…

It is also very helpful to me to find and participate with devotionals, meditations and ways other people have found to be successful in strengthening their faith – and their lives.

There is so much out there to learn – I believe we just have to put our sails up and open our eyes and our hearts to the spiritual opportunities we encounter in this beautiful path of life…
